FINALLY A BEER REVIEW!!!
I'm gonna go ahead and do a beer review. This one is a local brewery by the name of Buckbean Brewing out of Reno, Nevada. These guys are a microbrewery off McCarran blvd. right across from Mira Loma park. They Have 2 types of beer commercially available to my knowledge,Black Noddy Lager, and Orange Blossom Ale. Im gonna review the first one "Black Noddy Lager".
I lifted the photo off of google. some frat boy did a review i guess.
First off I wanna say i have been wanting to try this beer for a while based on the fact it's local desert made beer. The packaging for starters is really cool they come in pints of four that are bound together with this plastic ring that is re-usable so you can carry other types of beer and shit around together. as you can see its black and sexy with some chrome, some cool symbols and shit. Im on my second one of the pack right now and The flavors are still very strong and apparent, not losing their flavor with the buzz. It is very dark and creamy almost chocolate/mocha coffee like. i also taste caramel and malt ball flavors. it is not very sweet or fruity but really creamy . a lot like guinness but not as coffee like and not brewed with nitrogen. It is pretty thick almost like egg nog at first but once the head is gone then its a nice smooth texture.this beer is a little different though the end tastes like a pale ale or some type of crisper brew. I think the beer would taste a lot better in either a bottle or glass but punks rarely use glasses so i thought id review just the can taste.this beers flavor stays a really long time, it has been 10 minutes since i last had one and i can still taste the finish and the malt ball flavors. all and all a good black ale, i give it a 8/10 only because its not in a glass bottle, it does come with a cool carrying case though. I cant wait to try the Orange Blossom Ale next but no review cause there is work at hand.

Yes, We Must
These are demos and outtakes from Jaga Jazzist's neo-classic What We Must. These Norse dudes play jazz-fusion. In the vein of The Weather Report or even Mahavishnu Orchestra, except they add a 21st-century electronic twist. Mixing drum programming and live horns. It's fucking brilliant. Then, on What We Must they flipped the script and used a live drummer. Almost sounding like Explosions In The Sky while always maintaining this insane jazz cool. Especially in winter I find myself listening to this band a lot. It can turn the frozen decay of downtown Reno, into some magical wonderland. With northern lights, and the Coca-Cola polar bears and the kind of snow that ain't cold.
The best part about this band is you can literally pick up any release and start from there. Yet, they don't all sound the same, it's crazy. Even though these are just a few demos from their last record, I think it serves as good an introduction as any of their other releases. But if you like this I suggest getting What We Must, and then A Living Room Hush, and you'd pretty much be set.
For All You Happy People+
For Punks!
Not all too familiar with Atari Teenage Riot. But this is a side-project of sorts. I picked it up when I worked at Recycled Records, mainly cuz it was on Grand Royal and I was feeling adventurous. The cover too, that shit's pretty tight. Technically this is drum-n-bass. Too me it just sounds like if some eastern European speed-freak tried to make punk with electronics. Just an odd pick up, if I knew what it was I probably wouldn't have grabbed it, but it's an interesting listen at least.
Hammertime
Armadillo Cowboys
Two (slightly autistic?)teenagers with a rudimentary understanding of their instruments belt out cutesy-wutesy songs influenced by; Freddy Got Fingered, Harmony Korine, and The Snooty Phalanges. How could you not be sold?
Gravy All Over Him
Might as well just throw this one out here. Before Cold Cave, this is the other electronic band from Wes Eisold. The big burly guy from Hatebreed is along for the ride, the new Cage record reminded me a lot of this stuff, which makes since cuz he shows up on this one. And the guy from Hatebreed is now playing with Cage. Small world. This one gets the Nitrous stamp of approval as well.
Hugz and Kissez
Caught In A Cave
Wes Eisold's "no-wave" project. This is the first recording, and has a harder edge that I feel has been lacking from all of the releases Cold Cave has been putting out lately. If you had only listened to Give Up The Ghost, I would say to start out here as far as Cold Cave goes, because it just gets more Euro from here. I don't know if Wes is a fan of Nitrous Oxide, but I will say that whippets and this demo go together like nuts and fudge.

Sour Patch Kidz
Bay Area raize up! Fuck yes, I am seriously seriously crushin' on this band baaad. Homeboy Jack from Don't Trip(Rest In Pot my brothers) was bumping this on a recent trip up here. After a spin or two I had to know who the hell this was. Well for the last month or so I have bumping this at least once daily, which is saying a whole damn lot. I don't even eat everyday, or anything. No bull, straight up Pop, with punk tendencies. I refuse to call it pop-punk because it just doesn't do this shit justice. I am a songwriting guy, regardless of the type of music, I just care that their is some thought and effort put into the craft. Perfect pop music sounds instantly familliar. That's all it really takes, and every song hits you like a bad case of Deja Vu. Like that time you smoked salvia and swore up and down that you were married to your friends Grandmother in another life. I swear that happens. Anyways I got a soft spot for this shit for some other reasons too. I am a sucker for literally anything with a female vocalist-From Walls of Jericho to the Wizard of Oz soundtrack. Punk rock romance is also a fun subject to dwell on. Sometimes I get tired of all the vegan potlucks, and bike rides down by the river. But honestly that shit beats bangin' your dick on a chicks tailbone in a drunk, sweaty frenzy at Tonic........sike. Lastly, there is something about the Bay Area punk scene that I just have always had an affinity for. Probably the proximity. Anyways, I relate to this shit faar more than other stuff(call me a regionalist). There you have it. I love this band and this damn cd. Just cuz it's technically a demo I won't call it my favorite release of '09. But 2010 better watch out cuz they are scheduled to drop something proper at the end of the year. Speaking of which, they'll be taking pre-orders soon so get on that, it's seems like a pretty good package with a tote bag and all. Pre-Order Full Length
It seems kind of redundant to upload since it's already up so you can thank these dudes for putting it up!
Pucker Up
Making Fear Reality
This band is one of my favorite finds of the year. They contacted me earlier this summer about a show, and within 30 seconds of checking 'em out I knew that I was in for a treat. It was really one of the only shows that I've booked this year and was actually stoked to see. In my opinion THIS is American black metal. That's just me though. Anyways what you have here is extremely abrasive loud rock n roll. Simple as that. They put on a great show, and are great dudes too. Here's a sevey...

*swallow* Gag
Feeling rather Reno-ish at the moment. This right hurr is the "Great White Hope" of Reno Punk right now. Featuring members who's ex-bands list could fill up a post in itself. I would say this is the most professional and solid band Reno has to offer. They consider themselves a skate-punk band. However they have more in common with The Jesus Lizard or Big Black, than they do with JFA or Bones Brigade. But then again, Punk is a state of mind, not a set of riffs. Along with being arguably some of the better musicians in this town, they also have the undisputed best recording. period.
None other than Steve Albini recorded their first full length. Lending his penchant for monstrous drums, and gritty tone to accompany the cacophony inside. If you want to pick that bad boy up, you can do so HERE Not much else to say...if you are on the westcoast and are lucky enough to have seen these dudes than you know Morgan is one crazy motherfucking front-man. Up there with Darby Crash or Ian Svenious. No lie
Right here we have their first ep, a live track, demos, and seven inch tracks. Just some odds and ends, but seek out Bound + Gagged, you won't be disappointed...

Birth Is A Sexually Transmitted Disease
Oh hell I might as well-Before Royal Noble, Justin(main Royal Noble dude) played drums in Arabella which in my opinion was the most promising hardcore band out of Reno from '03-'05. Killer live show, brutal-as-fuck female vocals, creepy male falsetto vocals, angular guitars, muscular bass. Really can you ask for more from a hardcore band? What made them better was at the time everyone was either doing Trustkill style bro-mosh, or wimpy Ebullition rip-off shit. That's a terrible generalization, but I am trying to make the case for my dudes! Anyways super short lived, a seven inch and a split, yadda yadda yadda. The good ones always go first....oh and there is a Born Against cover to boot!

Boil, Boil, Royal and Noble
Hailing from my home burg of Reno, Nv. Royal Noble is a sometimes three-piece that is sometimes active. As is the case with the majority of bands from Reno, shit always kind of fizzles out before they can get a foot hold nationally, or even regionally for that matter. But you better believe this band kept the basements warm for a good while. This is one of a few demos, I believe it's the first. But don't quote me, it is nine concise power-pop ditties revolving around themes of love and, well mostly just love. People might classify this as lo-fi, but that's just because it's recorded on minimal equipment with minimal polish. This isn't that aesthetic lo-fi, which mostly just means they buried a sub-par song under fuzz and white-noise, it's really just lo-fi out of necessity; no big studios or big money in the Biggest Little City. If you needed to compare them to something I would say somewhere between The Replacements and Daniel Johnston, but that's a pretty lazy description.

Stompin' N Da Rompa Room
Just finished this book on Federal Prisons. The Hot House is a doozy for sure, the journalism is a little jaundiced, but that doesn't mean none of this stuff has not happened. Anyways it got me thinking about Mac Dre who spent some time incarcerated in the early 90's. While in jail he recorded raps over the phone and released an album.
A lot of people will talk shit on The Furl but I will save my arguments on his lyrical supremacy for a later post. Right now I just want people to hear some of the shit he was spitting in jail.
