Penetration Panthers Update

CRIMESCENE MERCH has put up shirts to correlate with all of the Cult of The Seven Crowns releases that came out on A389 earlier this month, the Penetration Panthers seven inch is available on clear vinyl with pink swirls real radical, and all that Gehenna related ish is fucking choice as hell you should stop by A389 and scope around they just dropped a bunch of stuff that has never really been heard except for by small circles of people in darklit rooms and copious wafts bongsmoke. All the stuff is out on Itunes too if you are so inclined....I tell you what I never expected something I recorded to be on Itunes but thats the modern world for you I suppose.

WISE BLOOD

your boi here from Spitting Image is playin a show Easter with oakland weirdo punx Uzi Rash..

"...the only thing that makes the Church endurable is that it is somehow the body of Christ and that on this we are fed. It seems to be a fact that you have to suffer as much from the Church as for it but if you believe in the divinity of Christ, you have to cherish the world at the same time that you struggle to endure it. Springtime in America

April Rise - Laurie Lee

If ever I saw blessing in the air
I see it now in this still early day
Where lemon-green the vaporous morning drips
Wet sunlight on the powder of my eye.

Blown bubble-film of blue, the sky wraps round
Weeds of warm light whose every root and rod
Splutters with soapy green, and all the world
Sweats with the bead of summer in its bud.

If ever I heard blessing it is there
Where birds in trees that shoals and shadows are
Splash with their hidden wings and drops of sound
Break on my ears their crests of throbbing air.

Pure in the haze the emerald sun dilates,
The lips of sparrows milk the mossy stones,
While white as water by the lake a girl
Swims her green hand among the gathered swans.

Now, as the almond burns its smoking wick,
Dropping small flames to light the candled grass;
Now, as my low blood scales its second chance,
If ever world were blessed, now it is.

Vile Love: A New Western Perversion

Chur boiz here at Rise of the Visigoths be doing some thangs; excuse our relative absence. We've been plotting a group art event under the wing of our friends, The Holland Project, the noble art and music organization here in Reno, Nevada.

Poet Joanne de Longchamps once compared the air and light of the Aegean Sea to Nevada’s ancient Pyramid Lake. Recognizing and exalting the geography of mythology, she was able to allow the wellspring of Western thought to seep through into her art and psyche that was firmly seated in the desert. Here on the crux of a disenchanting American dream, and unbound universal potential, Austin Pratt, Jaron Coxson, and Jake Graves seek to propagate a comprehensive mythology and aesthetic for swift modern currents.
Inspired by the desert geography and history, religious icons, empirical astrology, and cultural relics, we have assembled paintings and other visual expressions of magic to create an environment that will both honor novelty and exuberance and lament the rusted antecedent myths.

Here some info they've released about us..
Jaron Coxson, Jake Graves and Austin Pratt have pulled from worldwide folklore, contemporary commentary, conspiracy theory and pop culture to develop their aesthetics and attitude towards art-making. The work they have made and collected represents their directed efforts towards their own representations of our present, pressing up against the unknown future, while referencing a mythologized past.

Each artist has contributed recent works, including but not limited to: paintings, sculptures, found objects, collages, photographic prints, and other curiosities.

Keep Ruling Violently

schools out thank the gods, another semester fumbled

Hell yeah in the next coming weeks there will be a couple vinyl releases brought to you by the homies, on saturday the mighty VIOLENT RULER will be dropping their first full length, SWELLING THE MORGUE. In fact if MO woke up he should be fucking around with transparencies and diddlin' with layouts as I write. the release party is on SATURDAY in Reno at Jub Jubs Thirst Parlor. As it stands I don't know any information on pre-ordering and all that but I'll pass it along once it's passed along to me...
For the woefully uninitiated VIOLENT RULER is hands-down the best metal act in Reno, taking the best parts from 80's splicing it with the best of the 90's, then they smother it with drugs and let it bleed. In other words they are top-notch Thrash Metal unit that make bands like Toxic Holocaust look like a cheap after-school special in comparison. But don't take my word for it you can check out six songs right below. They also are in the process of recording some other other shit so yeah be on the lookout for that as well. I've also heard rumours of a West Coast tour this year, don't wanna give too much away, but itll more than likely beINFAMOUS, and it might get RAINY and they might take a Pro-wrestler with them....anyways keep your ears and eyes open.

You're In The Jungle Baby

actually just found out about this just recently and am waaay surprised that someone has ripped this....what you have here is a bit of the Old Guard gettin' the fuck down, Toby owns Pnuematic, Spencer is the drummer for Huck(also Tate Labianca featured on the blog), Beau Shaver was mentioned in a previous post, and Jake Griffin tatoos at Ace's).

ps-they all have at one point lived on Sinclair st. yeehaw!

Live Four Die Four

The newest Thrasher magazine has a little piece on Shake Junt and the memorial/skate jam that went down earlier this year in remembrance of Beau Shaver, local skate-legend/all-around BMF. It's a pretty good article and most definitely surreal to see local dudes get national recognition in the biggest skate magazine there is. Unfortunately Out of Bounds recently had to close their doors, which kind of makes this article bittersweet, since a large part of the skate scene here revolved around that store. But Reno iz resilient if nothing else, hopefully we can make the Shred 4 Shaver event an annual get down.

there's no sound on this video, but so just put on this Lil Gin track while you watch it...

For Those Who Fear Tomorrow: You Have No Idea

A whole lot of things in my world that I haven't really spoke upon, playing with a band again really stoked on that shit's starting to come together. Penetration Panthers, if I get my way you'll hear that name a lot more.

Last weekend we played down in SoCal for the Integrity/GEHENNA show at the Chain Reaction. That show was huge and I am real grateful that I got to be apart of it. It's always nice seeing people out in a about in other cities. If you are an aging punker feeling down and out I suggest getting out and going to a bigger show like that to remember what it's all about. Or at least what it's about sometimes. Earlier in the day we played a super secret show down the street. Penetration Panthers, Violent Ruler, Gehenna, Integrity, Slaughterhouse Death Kamp.....got super duper faded and had an all-around good time. I can't begin to describe how surreal it was to be apart of the weekend. Just thinking about what my 16year-old self would've thought about the whole thing makes me kind of laugh. I remember when Integrity played Reno like 7 years ago with Ringworm....never in a million years did I think I would play a show with them at some hole-in-the-wall bar in Anaheim California.

I was trippin out on how Integrity and GEHENNA are getting super popular again and I realized it's because the lyrics and the music and the overall affect of these bands is almost TOO relevant for our current state of affairs. Each day it becomes less and less likely that we will pull-out of our collective tail-spin into oblivion. Honestly we probably never had a chance this ship was sinking looong before I ever got here, and long before most people got here too. But in these last two years and especially this last 6 months it's becoming increasingly apparent that we are fucked. Then you think about bands like Integrity and GEHENNA and you start to feel their message and you realize that they have literally been SCREAMING at us for the last 20 years trying to wake the world up to the reality of our situation.

Not that you know I completely condone being an out-right motherfucker, being honest about who we/you are, and what's actually going on is a step in the right direction. And I must say Im glad to have dudes like the ones in GEHENNA to show me how to WIN in such a rotten world.

By The Way this video was filmed in Reno! Take that!

John Smith Boner Shit

A post or so ago I commented on how Holland has been getting it done in a major way. My only concern is that Van and them might be a couple years ahead of Reno, or rather Reno may be a couple years behind them. Either way it leaves those in the know in a pretty sweet position. You get to see all these national acts who are really doing it up right now, without having to cross the pass every week or so, and you get to enjoy music without the constant annoyance of Large City Folk and their obsession with over-priced necessity clothing.(Not just musically, but Pocahuanted/Psychic Reality are on the very tip of a next-level arts/culture movement mark my words). In fact I may have to suggest this band more for the artists than for people who absolutely love a song. This is more about creating something....living...highly contextual I s'pose.....I feel this shit is gonna be absolutely mind bending live. Definitely an occasion to get you pH levels all perfect and sit crossed legged(indian style) on the floor and let yourself get consumed. Well at least that's what I intend on doing.
Anyways Swahili(reno's own purveyors of this general ilk) will be playing their last show as Renoites before they set their sights for far more greener pastures(literally. figuratively-to be determined) up in Portland.

Wow this is long winded-fuck it, come out to the damn show, if only for the fact that you can experience something sooo totally over your head.

Breaking Thine Law

Dream Deceivers (1990)

This is a really great KNPB-produced PBS documentary about a teen suicide pact made over Judas Priest in Reno in 1985 with one of the two kids, James Vance, unfortunately surviving a twelve-gauge blast to his head and the following absurd and frivolous lawsuit over supposed subliminal messages in the music. This happened in the suburban neighborhood we nicknamed America, where our old band practiced, where Jake and Ryan were jumped and stabbed a minute back, and where Miles and the Lundahls live. Perhaps a hex was cast on olde Black Forest Lane. This story is nearly as outrageous as a Reno 911 plotline, but as if shot from the other side of the law; the disaffected and alienated teenagers in Reagan America. Look out for what happens in a town preoccupied in the tourist and adult industry, a county with the highest heavy drinking rate in the nation, and within a state last in education and concerned with gambling on the future of Nevada. Is it clear yet why all of the bands here sound like Nirvana or Pantera?

Also worth noting:
-The influence of this movie for Harmony Korine on Gummo. He's mentioned it as a favorite, and his dad was a filmmaker for PBS in Nashville.
-Vance's lawyers office is shown, and is now a Church of Christ right across the street from us on Sinclair, very arguably an 'infamous' epicenter of metal, punk, and skateboarding in Reno.
-The kid playing guitar in the window sill and the metal fans at Frederic de LongChamps' beautifully designed Washoe County Courthouse as Priest rolls up. Dope.

T!t$, L@bi@$, and Knock3r$

Cleaning up the Itunes I came across this little ditty. A barely released demo by Tate-Labianca, yet another band with Jawsh Hagemen in it. This one is notable because it's pretty much the last time he played guitar in a hardcore band and the shit straight knocks. Local skate-dude Spencer B. did vocals, and he was among the most thrilling to watch live. Morgan's got it down pat, but Spencer is the original writhing floor creature. Musically simillar to This Computer Kills, Disconnect, stuff that was coming out on Ebullition 8 years ago. A little harder edged than Disconnect, and not all robotic like This Computer Kills....if only they would have been more of a presence! I remember asking for a demo back in the day and he kind of danced around the question saying there wasn't really one. Well by golly what am I listening to now?! All I know is if they shelved it for quality reasons they were some straight fools...Unfortunately I have no access to a picure of these dudes live, so instead be bummed out by the desecrated corpse of Sharon Tate.

Back 2 Skool

So on the first day of school I got tripped by a blind girl. Funniest thing ever, she was walking around waving that stick, and I wasn't sure if she was for real or not, then I tried to step out of her way but I was still in range for a wavey stick, it was some shit out of a sitcom.

Everyday before seventh grade I'd watch the video for Back To School on MTV2....them's was good days.

Just cuz I haven't put up any albums in a while....I figure I'll really get into the swing now that I have structure. Bafabegiya was a HARDCORE INSTITUTION in the middle aughts great seven inches, better shows, bona fide anthems. Although I would have preferred them not to get soooo jangly over-time, but what are you gonna do? This is the discography, not necessarily in chronological order. Standout tracks include; Punk Rock Saved My Life, Better Dead Than Domestic, Perfect Love Drives Out All Fear, and the classic High Fives, Stage Dives.

Punk In Drublic

Why o' why is it that everytime I hang with my mistress Molly she leads me like an albatross to the rocky crags of "talk hella shit to the oinkers"? The definition of insanity is insulting someone with the power to fuck you, and not expecting him to fuck you. Guilty as charged

A little lesson in Doublespeak-
Being arrested for resisting arrest only. It takes a syntax genius to explain that one.

Im not gonna give a play-by-play since I've already done that like fifty million times. So I'll keep it short.

I talked shit to the cops. The cops got offended. I got arrested. My friends disagreed with the cops decision. They got arrested. We went to jail.

Just another episode of When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong.

I'm starting to feel like getting arrested downtown is turning into a Ronnie Dobbs thing for me. Oh well.

But let's not forget, not all cops are bad...some are just plain evil

Armadillo Cowboys

Two (slightly autistic?)teenagers with a rudimentary understanding of their instruments belt out cutesy-wutesy songs influenced by; Freddy Got Fingered, Harmony Korine, and The Snooty Phalanges. How could you not be sold?
