LOCALS ONLY!!!

Fuck yeah !! summer is almost here and its time to pick up your 'Merican cape and a motorcycle and break a leg or an arm (literally do it, break that fucker). The world was supposed to end May 21st but i guess that didn't happen because were still here and you're reading this shit, so that's good... or is it?? Naaaah its good, the swap meet is still open and Psilocybin is still as killer as ever. tomorrow will be my first psychedelic experience in almost 2 years now, the last one was a little drug some call 5-MEO-DMT otherwise known in some circles as super acid bobby hill dmt freak show. To this day I am followed around by a giant jewel encrusted panther bigger than a 1-ton van and resembling lady death better than any image I have seen since. I know change is looming, whether that be death, war, incarceration, or a personal hell that I created for myself by twangin' and wailin' on the whammy bar too much, or going to the suburbs too much to kick it with a bunch of rich white girls, or spending every last dime at stadium market on Nick's juice. To the future we all march! It never ends, it never ceases we just march forth into the New America, the Real America, Freak America!! Wish me luck fellow Psychenauts!

THE 4TH IS FASTLY APPROACHING HOW ARE YOU GOING TO CELEBRATE?? BLOW SHIT UP? BURN SHIT DOWN? CAST SPELLS ON YOURSELF AND HUFF PAINT? GO TO THE SUBURBS AND EAT PILLS AND DUST? SMOKE DUST ? GO TO SPACE? ALL OF THE ABOVE I SAY...

oh and the top pictures are as follows.

1. Louis Wain- A mental patient in the 1920's who drew pictures of cats.

Vile Love: A New Western Perversion

Chur boiz here at Rise of the Visigoths be doing some thangs; excuse our relative absence. We've been plotting a group art event under the wing of our friends, The Holland Project, the noble art and music organization here in Reno, Nevada.

Poet Joanne de Longchamps once compared the air and light of the Aegean Sea to Nevada’s ancient Pyramid Lake. Recognizing and exalting the geography of mythology, she was able to allow the wellspring of Western thought to seep through into her art and psyche that was firmly seated in the desert. Here on the crux of a disenchanting American dream, and unbound universal potential, Austin Pratt, Jaron Coxson, and Jake Graves seek to propagate a comprehensive mythology and aesthetic for swift modern currents.
Inspired by the desert geography and history, religious icons, empirical astrology, and cultural relics, we have assembled paintings and other visual expressions of magic to create an environment that will both honor novelty and exuberance and lament the rusted antecedent myths.

Here some info they've released about us..
Jaron Coxson, Jake Graves and Austin Pratt have pulled from worldwide folklore, contemporary commentary, conspiracy theory and pop culture to develop their aesthetics and attitude towards art-making. The work they have made and collected represents their directed efforts towards their own representations of our present, pressing up against the unknown future, while referencing a mythologized past.

Each artist has contributed recent works, including but not limited to: paintings, sculptures, found objects, collages, photographic prints, and other curiosities.

RIP Trish Keenan

I know I know this is a week late, but Ive been tied up for the last week and just found out, what a bummer super tragic...at least she will always live on through her great great music. She will most deservedly go down as one of the contemporary greats.

Singles of Note

Weed Hounds-Skating Away From The Cops 7"

Hell yeah two-songs that are super-potent, couldn't get enough of this band, the demo is great too but I really like the way they produced these tracks not too hot not too cold if you know what I mean. The songs are great, would you run away if I told you they reminded me of "Isn't Anything" MBV? You can call me lazy, but don't discount the band. They are set to drop a full-length in the next coupla months and I can't wait.

The Pains Of Being Pure of Heart-Say No To Love 7"

Even though I've slowly been coming to the conclusion it ain't healthy to listen to all this spoon-my-heart-out/fatalist/uber-romance shit all the time I still have to give it up to these doods, it's just too pretty too well crafted. The secret hater in me can't wait till this band screws up so I can just hate on em but it's probably not gonna happen cuz they have a pretty damn consistent track-record of purrrfection. On a related note: When is Mac gonna come out with filters for your eyes, fuck rose-colored glasses, I want super 8 lenses.Say No To Love

Veronica Falls-Beachy Head 7"

Well I am getting a little miffed(that's british right?) that there hasn't been a full-length yet, or a deluge of singles....just a slow slow trickle it's all gold though I guess that's the trade-off. I heard somewhere this song is about a famous place to kill yourself, now that's goth and they didn't even need to bury it under a mile of white-noise. But on another note, has there ever been one sunny day in all of England's existence? Catch the Wave

Wild Nothing-Evertide Ep

Welp no surprise here I been jocking this band too damned hard lately. I don't even have words for this one too good too good. jock on

Balam Acab-See Birds

I think you could call Balam Acab rookie of the year, he came out of nowhere and pretty much won the hearts of all, he pulls more emotion out of machines than most can out a slew live instruments, and they are covered in gorgeous texture. Unlike witch house which he might be unfairly asscociated with he doesn't leave you feeling desperate or scared, mostly fulfilled and renewed and shit positive like that. See Birds

Ikonika-DCKHDBTCH

A lot of times I am really disappointed by dubstep, but really it's just that it's gotten so big now that it has gone in a million different directions. And unfortunately the directions leading to the general mindless herds are the ones most popular. Thankfully guys like Joker, Hudson Mohawke, and Nosaj Thing are still pushing boundaries and right up there with them is Ikonika. Her drums are pretty simple kinda cheap sounding, but she throws the most bonkers ass melodies over it, after a minute they just start to work on you, then her super woozy basslines start to take effect, it's real cool. This isn't the best introduction to her music but it is definitely solid.

Zomby-One Foot Ahead of The Other

Zomby definitely fits into the above-mentioned category of people not being content with the definition of dubstep the mindless are trying to impose on the rest of us. I don't know much about electronics or sequencers so I can't really say what he's doing, it sounds analog and complex to me. Actually I think this ep has more in common with Wendy Carlos than Bassnectar. It surely satisfies my brain in ways simillar to Switched On Bach.

White Ring/oOoOO-Emotion 7"

This whole genre is inevitably gonna get a whole bunch of flack but good music remains good music and this seven inch is good music. You shouldn't have to apologize for like DJ's Paul and Screw as well Portishead and Burzum it's fucking 2010 ya heard? Let em do their thang thang. And besides the clever genre tag isn't it really just cold wave or goth or whatever? I think sometimes people lose perspective and can't appreciate something cool when it's crawling like Ju-On across the floor.EmOtiONaL

oOoOO-EP

Yeah other than Salem I think these guys have got the most bankable catalog at the moment, NoSmmr4U is a certified banger.Did I mention the Pokerface Remix?

Oration On Tha Dignity of 23

A new form of human being announces itself: dynamic, creative, multidimensional, protean, unfinished, self-defining and self-creating, infinitely aspiring, set apart from the whole, overseeing the rest of the world with unique sovereignty, centrally poised in the last moments of the old cosmology to bring forth and enter into the new.
-from Tarnas' Cosmos and Psyche on twenty-three year old Pico della Mirandola's 1486 Oration on the Dignity of Man

"Neither a fixed abode nor a form that is thine alone nor any function peculiar to thyself have we given thee, Adam, to the end that according to thy longing and according to thy judgment thou mayest have and possess what abode, what form, and what functions thou thyself shalt desire. The nature of all other beings is limited and constrained within the bounds of laws prescribed by Us. Thou, constrained by no limits, in accordance with thine own free will, in whose hand We have placed thee, shalt ordain for thyself the limits of thy nature. We have set thee at the world's center that thou mayest from thence more easily observe whatever is in the world. We have made thee neither of heaven nor of earth, neither mortal nor immortal, so that with freedom of choice and with honor, as though the maker and molder of thyself, thou mayest fashion thyself in whatever shape thou shalt prefer."

Demons of the Static Age

Word has it that with super high bit-rates this video appears to be more than it is...I haven't actually been able to watch it yet, and certainly not download and watch it proper, high and defined, but yeah check this shit out. No lie I've listened to this song more than any other in the last couple of months(beating out Joanna Newsom, Big Boi, Isobel Campbell...that is one large feat). While static is an interesting medium, they really need to get someone with a Carpenter/Kubrick aesthetic up on their videos and start churnin' out the new DARK...you can pick up a super Fidelic version of the video somewhere on this website but not entirely sure how...how helpful

Which House?

The Flaming Lips famously stated, "Finally the punk rockers are taking Acid", I would like to say, "Finally nerdy computer geeks are taking cough syrup". If they were ever to accurately remake a classic horror film(mostly Nightmare on Elm Street) The opening shot would be a descending aerial view of a sleepy neighborhood that slowly descends on to one open upstair window....this song would be playing and their would be choppy cuts of an underwater scene and maybe some stock owl footage spliced in there really artfully. Plus that guitar solo sounds ripped straight from David Gilmour's hands circa 1983.

John Smith Boner Shit

A post or so ago I commented on how Holland has been getting it done in a major way. My only concern is that Van and them might be a couple years ahead of Reno, or rather Reno may be a couple years behind them. Either way it leaves those in the know in a pretty sweet position. You get to see all these national acts who are really doing it up right now, without having to cross the pass every week or so, and you get to enjoy music without the constant annoyance of Large City Folk and their obsession with over-priced necessity clothing.(Not just musically, but Pocahuanted/Psychic Reality are on the very tip of a next-level arts/culture movement mark my words). In fact I may have to suggest this band more for the artists than for people who absolutely love a song. This is more about creating something....living...highly contextual I s'pose.....I feel this shit is gonna be absolutely mind bending live. Definitely an occasion to get you pH levels all perfect and sit crossed legged(indian style) on the floor and let yourself get consumed. Well at least that's what I intend on doing.
Anyways Swahili(reno's own purveyors of this general ilk) will be playing their last show as Renoites before they set their sights for far more greener pastures(literally. figuratively-to be determined) up in Portland.

Wow this is long winded-fuck it, come out to the damn show, if only for the fact that you can experience something sooo totally over your head.

The Ballad of Colton Harris-Moore

NPR
A teen bandit from the small Washington island of Camano has been on the run for 20 months and is being touted as a modern-day Jesse James. Police say the young outlaw is an amateur criminal — but a master escape artist.

The last time authorities had Colton Harris-Moore in custody was in April 2008. At that point, he was serving time in a halfway house for youth offenders, just south of Seattle. He'd been convicted of theft and possession of stolen property.

It was bed-check and he was in his pajamas. But soon after the nightly routine, he climbed out a second-story window and into the night.

Since then, the now-18-year-old fugitive has eluded police in Washington, Idaho and Canada, repeatedly vanishing into the woods. Police suspect he's stolen at least two planes, two boats and several cars, plus broken into more than 50 homes. Yet the only thing growing faster than Harris-Moore's alleged rap sheet is his legend.

Lawless But Loved

"I don't understand it, myself," says county sheriff Mark Brown. He bristles at the mention of Harris-Moore's exploding popularity.

"Reasonable people would not want to idolize somebody or sensationalize somebody who's a thief," he says.

Harris-Moore is wanted in five counties on multiple charges. But 10 of those charges are in Harris-Moore's hometown of Camano Island — Brown's jurisdiction.

Over the years, police say Harris-Moore has evolved from a petty thief stealing food and blankets, to what he is today — a convicted felon on the run.

During a recent appearance on a local Seattle radio show, Harris-Moore's mother, Pamela Kohler, said she has no idea where her son is hiding.

"And I like it like that, because that way I don't have any information to give to the police," she said.

Kohler says she's writing a book about her son's exploits. She plans to use the profits to open an animal shelter for abused pets, something she says her son had dreamed of doing. Kohler also claims he's a genius.

"He took an IQ test a few years ago and he's three points below Einstein," she says. "And if he flew those planes without lessons. I am very, very proud."
But he's not a boy only a mother can love. He has a growing legion of fans — and not just locally. Harris-Moore's fame reaches far beyond the small Puget Sound community where he is accused of invading homes and stealing credit cards. Feelings about Harris-Moore run the gamut from locals who are tired of the story — and of answering reporters' questions — to fierce fans enamored with the growing myth.

People have even written songs. The lyrics to "The Ballad of Barefoot Harris" read, "But he'd never hurt a fly, and he'd never kill a man, and he never will be found."

Fans as far away as Greece, Italy and Australia extend open-door invitations through the magic of Facebook. To date, there are more than 16,000 members of a fan page for Harris-Moore.

Girls, taken by his almond-shaped blue eyes, beg him to visit their homes and offer to be his girlfriend. Guys mock the law enforcement agencies who have failed to capture the 6-foot-5, 210-pound teen.

Aidin Stephens is also rooting for the runaway. And not just because Stephens sells T-shirts bearing Harris-Moore's picture for $15 each.

"Being good doesn't really get you very far," Stephens says. "It's a kind of a sucker's swindle."

"There's haves and have-nots in the world, and whether he's a mastermind or not, he obviously was never going to have the kind of opportunities that some people might have to have a Mercedes or to be a pilot," Stephens says. "I mean, it's an expensive hobby to have an airplane."

Legend's End Still Up In The Air

Nobody knows that better than Bob Rivers, whose plane was worth $150,000. That was before Harris-Moore allegedly stole it — then then totaled, it.

It took police almost a year to link Rivers' 4-seater Cessna to the wanted teen. But despite their assertions, Rivers, a Seattle host for CBS Radio, is not entirely convinced Harris-Moore is really responsible. And he's reluctant to add to the fugitive's growing legend.

"There's a saying in aviation: There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots," Rivers says. "Colton has clearly done some bold things, but could he learn to fly on the Internet and then crash-land several planes in a row, in rugged terrain, and walk away each time without a scratch?"

The story — if true — is what makes Harris-Moore's life the stuff movies are made of. Just last month, a documentary film crew landed on Camano Island to interview locals. A slew of production companies are courting Kohler for access to her son.

Of course, this isn't a movie. With each new crime that's attributed to the teen, the stakes get higher and the potential for a dangerous confrontation increases. Authorities and Harris-Moore's mother are hoping for the least cinematic ending — the one where the 18-year-old quietly turns himself in.
