Korine, Franco, and Selena Gomez! SPRINGBREAKERS

Tryna resuscitate this thing after a shit storm of a half a year. stolen computer etc.. lessdoodiss.

Just caught wind from harmony-korine.com that in addition to the three-part film installation "Rebel" from earlier this year that Harmony Korine and James Franco collaborated on, they'll be shooting a new film called "SPRINGBREAKERS" starring Disney Channel diva Selena Gomez, Franco, and Rachel Korine. hyped!

"[Spring Breakers] follows four college-aged girls who rob a fast food restaurant to afford spring break in Florida, only to get arrested upon their arrival… Alien, a rapping drug and arms dealer, bails them out and entices them to kill his arch-rival, a murderer who is appropriately named Arch."-slash film

"Roberts would play a Southerner who feeds off danger, while Gomez would play a religious girl. The rest of the group would include Hudgens. Franco will co-star as a drug and arms dealer who bails them out of jail." - variety

Rebel - Harmony Korine James Franco

Some photos and video from the set of the new Harmony Korine and James Franco project, Rebel.
"The duo is reportedly planning to stage a fight between actual L.A. street gangs and they might allow the gangs to use real weapons and hurt one another. The battle will reportedly take place at an iconic location like the Griffith Observatory"
Heard about this just after James Franco, Emile Hirsch, and Dakota Fanning were here in Reno last month filming for The Motel Life, a film based off of Reno author Willie Vlautin's 2006 novel... and it looks as if Korine's bmx motif is only getting better. I can't think of much that could top holographic rims on wheelchairs, but violent Warrior's style themed bmx gangs with machetes could do it..

and a new to the world tap dance video of korine in 2001 from avant-garde cinema great Jonas Mekas..

Oration On Tha Dignity of 23

A new form of human being announces itself: dynamic, creative, multidimensional, protean, unfinished, self-defining and self-creating, infinitely aspiring, set apart from the whole, overseeing the rest of the world with unique sovereignty, centrally poised in the last moments of the old cosmology to bring forth and enter into the new.
-from Tarnas' Cosmos and Psyche on twenty-three year old Pico della Mirandola's 1486 Oration on the Dignity of Man

"Neither a fixed abode nor a form that is thine alone nor any function peculiar to thyself have we given thee, Adam, to the end that according to thy longing and according to thy judgment thou mayest have and possess what abode, what form, and what functions thou thyself shalt desire. The nature of all other beings is limited and constrained within the bounds of laws prescribed by Us. Thou, constrained by no limits, in accordance with thine own free will, in whose hand We have placed thee, shalt ordain for thyself the limits of thy nature. We have set thee at the world's center that thou mayest from thence more easily observe whatever is in the world. We have made thee neither of heaven nor of earth, neither mortal nor immortal, so that with freedom of choice and with honor, as though the maker and molder of thyself, thou mayest fashion thyself in whatever shape thou shalt prefer."

We Out Chea Evil Boi

Affinity is a weird thing. It's somewhere between intuition on one side and rational thought on the other. Something like taste in the middle. Reminds me of a dream I'm going to have. Suffice to say, Harmony Korine and Die Antwoord are doing a short film this week in Nashville propelled by Lil Boosie? ! ! !

spin:
What American hip-hop have you've been getting into lately?
Well, we're making a short form movie with [Kids writer] Harmony Korine and he started playing me Lil Boosie's video "We Out Chea." It's pretty fuckin'….I've never seen something like that. They all look cooked in the video. It looks like there's something wrong with all their eyes and Harmony told me they all drank cough medicine.
inmusic:
"We're making a short film with Harmony Korine in a few weeks time. He sent me this gangsta rap music of these videos of these gangsta rappers in the Deep South. And I kind of understood Die Antwoord a little bit more after watching them. They all drink that cough mixture or something [drank] and they're all like f**kin wired and stuff. And I was watching these gangsta rappers and I didn't know what the f**k they were saying and I kind of got it. It reminded me of Die Antwoord. They're in this f**kin zone. It's the only thing I've seen in a long time that reminded me of Die Antwoord."
pitchfork:
We're doing a short film in a few weeks time with Harmony Korine that will screen at the Rotterdam Film Festival this January. [Korine] wrote the script and we made it a little more Zef. It's come out fuckin' wild. It's a short film called Wat Kyk Jy-- which means "watcha lookin' at?"-- which I tattooed onto my penis as well.

and this is what ninja says about his raps:
I'm rapping about finding boobs and stuff. And black magic and like stealing money.

I'm a patriot, I hide in trees alright

Here are the three Harmony Korine Letterman appearances for those who haven't seen them.. Letterman is like a condescending coworker, but more like an unfunny pawn for Viacom. whatever, enjoy.
1995 for Kids

1997 for Gummo

1998 or 1999 for A Crack-up at the Race Riots before getting banned for shoving Meryl Streep

A Chump and Hoagie going Buck Wild

Is it a page ripped directly from the Harmony Korine handbook? Yes. Is it highly exploitative? Uh-huh. Does it make you feel like you accidentally swallowed a bone? On occasion. Is it even any good? Well that is up to you. I personally love it, and since I just watched a couple of hours of television I can tell you for a FACT that there is faaaaaar shittier things that have been made in this world, for a whole lot more money even.

-anyone who finds senseless violence against animals to be highly offensive, and of extreme poor taste might as well save themselves the trouble and resign to hating this film with a passion

Breaking Thine Law

Dream Deceivers (1990)

This is a really great KNPB-produced PBS documentary about a teen suicide pact made over Judas Priest in Reno in 1985 with one of the two kids, James Vance, unfortunately surviving a twelve-gauge blast to his head and the following absurd and frivolous lawsuit over supposed subliminal messages in the music. This happened in the suburban neighborhood we nicknamed America, where our old band practiced, where Jake and Ryan were jumped and stabbed a minute back, and where Miles and the Lundahls live. Perhaps a hex was cast on olde Black Forest Lane. This story is nearly as outrageous as a Reno 911 plotline, but as if shot from the other side of the law; the disaffected and alienated teenagers in Reagan America. Look out for what happens in a town preoccupied in the tourist and adult industry, a county with the highest heavy drinking rate in the nation, and within a state last in education and concerned with gambling on the future of Nevada. Is it clear yet why all of the bands here sound like Nirvana or Pantera?

Also worth noting:
-The influence of this movie for Harmony Korine on Gummo. He's mentioned it as a favorite, and his dad was a filmmaker for PBS in Nashville.
-Vance's lawyers office is shown, and is now a Church of Christ right across the street from us on Sinclair, very arguably an 'infamous' epicenter of metal, punk, and skateboarding in Reno.
-The kid playing guitar in the window sill and the metal fans at Frederic de LongChamps' beautifully designed Washoe County Courthouse as Priest rolls up. Dope.
