Tromaville Troubadors

Matt Mondanile has easily become my favorite musician of 2009. First through Ducktails, then Real Estate, and as of an hour ago The Parasails. This dude is bringin' it hella hard. He's got a sound, and throughout his various projects he explores all these different facets of it. He's got the kind of bands where people make up a million new adjectives in an attempt to describe what you hear. Well there ain't nothing like it so I'm not gonna give it a bunch of hyphenated nonsense descriptors. The newest Real Estate record is probably my favorite release so far. As opposed to all the other releases this one has a real crisp production. Which actually adds a lot, there is a lot more time to find the nuance and stuff on the songs. Although, the versions of the songs that were found on demos and seven inches are great too. I just think that the self titled record has more to offer everyone. Shoot, it almost reminds me of "Oh, Inverted World"-era Shins. On Ducktails the washy lo-fi vibe perfectly compliment the songs. Which seem largely inspired by New Jersey coast/beach culture. All the songs have this distant flowy feeling. A lot like a overcast, drizzly afternoon. People might call this stuff drone, but it's far too kinetic for that. It's good it's good.
